Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft: Outdoor Knots

Feb 20, 2022

Learn the ropes >>>

Sure, you can secure a load with ratchet straps or bungee cords. But what if all you have is a length of rope? And you have every right to use a few quick wraps of paracord around a tree to hang your tarp when you hit camp. But what happens when the wind kicks up in the middle of the night, and the rain starts coming down? Knots solve problems. Knowing how to make rope do your bidding is a cornerstone of bushcraft, survival skills, and just plain old competency in the woods.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this half-day course:

  • Knots, including:
  • Bowline
  • Clove hitch
  • Round turn & two half hitches
  • Taut-line hitch
  • Trucker’s hitch
  • Square knot
  • Overhand knot
  • Figure-eight family
  • Double fisherman’s bend
  • Sheet bend
  • The way to store paracord so it’ll never tangle
  • How to care for your rope
  • The kinds of rope you should carry in your kit + in your vehicle

And here’s what else you’ll get:

  • Unlimited instructor support after class via email
  • A 10’ length of practice rope to take home

Rope work is a paramount skill, and one that you need to have down before you venture into a number of outdoor disciplines. At the end of this class, Eagle Scouts and sailors will have nothing on you. No prior experience is required for this class, however, we do highly recommend that you review our FAQs page prior to class.
