Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft: Outdoor Knives

September 17th, 2023

SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS >>>

The earliest archaeological evidence of knives dates back nearly half a million years. Like fire, blades are a part of who we are. In the outdoors, the knife is fundamental. Even if you leave everything else at home, bring a knife. But having it in hand isn’t enough – you need to know how to use it, and keep it working at its best. A dull knife is often worse than no knife at all – ineffective and dangerous. As a competent woodsman, there’s no excuse for not keeping your tools in top shape. Let us show you the right way.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this half-day class:

  • Basic knife safety rules
  • How to use your blade to get the most out of it
  • Different types of blade grinds, and their advantages vs disadvantages
  • Different types of steels, and their advantages vs disadvantages
  • How to choose the right knife for your needs
  • The steps of sharpening, including material removal, honing, and stropping
  • Sharpening in the field vs. at home
  • Improvised sharpening when you don’t have a stone

And here’s what else you’ll get:

  • Unlimited instructor support after class via email
  • 10% off all knives and sharpeners

Lots of people are afraid to use their knives, because they’re intimidated by the thought of messing them up. At the end of this class, that won’t be you. Come gain the skills to use and maintain your blade the right way, and cut with confidence. No prior experience is required, however, we do recommend that you review our FAQs page prior to class.
